A large fire engulfed the industrial market in the Durrës beach area this afternoon, where there are over 20 shops that operate mainly during the summer season.
The incident was reported at around 16:30 and according to preliminary sources, the fire caused extensive material damage. Due to the strong wind, the flames spread rapidly, engulfing almost the entire market within a few minutes.
"Due to the strong wind, the fire spread for almost 5 minutes throughout the market. I came to the aid of people, both those I know and those I don't know. Several light explosions were heard in the shops of the market. At first, only one fire engine came, then I called them to bring more. I believe it was not managed properly. The fire came from above and they continued from below. It was not prevented, they were working in the opposite direction," said a citizen who helped the shop owners.
While one of the owners affected by the flames said that she lost all her belongings:
"I had 10 million lek worth of goods here and I haven't managed to save anything. A great disaster befell us, we couldn't save anything," she told "A2 CNN."
