The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime is expected to hold a preliminary hearing today, at 10:00, against the leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, and his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi. In this hearing, the trial panel will decide whether or not the case will proceed to trial.
The hearing follows the developments of the previous hearing, which lasted about eight hours and was accompanied by verbal clashes between Ilir Meta and SPAK prosecutor Sotir Kllapi. During that hearing, the prosecutor managed to read only 90 pages of the request for the case to go to trial, while about 100 more pages remain to be presented.
The Special Prosecution Office closed the investigations on July 28, 2025, within the framework of the file related to the CEZ-DIA affair, the LSI lobbying in the United States of America, and the property investigation. According to SPAK, Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi are accused of passive corruption, money laundering, and failure to declare assets.
Pirro Xhixho is accused of passive corruption of high-ranking officials, committed in collaboration, while Fatime Kryemadhi is accused of money laundering, together with Ema Çoku. Monika Kryemadhi has been placed under the security measure of "compulsory appearance".
