"37 million euros are two stovepipes for the majority", Beci: Judges

The magistrates' request for a salary increase has turned into a debate between the judiciary and Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Former head of Serious Crimes, Eugen Beci, while invited to "Top Story" on Top Channel, commented on this clash by saying that '37 million euros are two stovepipes for the majority'.

According to him, 'the head of government is making the most of the judges' request for a salary increase to turn public opinion against it.'

" You are serving the public opinion with a prosecutor and judge who want more money, a desire to create a conflict. You are telling the public opinion that 'the judge will eventually come to me for the salaries'. The state budget is based on established rules. I see it as a narrative that the head of government uses best to turn public opinion against him.

It is the moment that judges and prosecutors have entered the political arena. We have two Constitutional decisions, the one of 2017 regulated the law on the status of magistrates (prosecutors and judges). In 2024, it regulated the reference for the payment of magistrates. After regulating it and taking the reference, it did not take the salary of the letter G, but said that in order to regulate the hierarchy, the reference would be the President, his salary.

What happened? The government decided to increase the salary of the administration without affecting the President's salary, which is the reference salary for magistrates. Magistrates claim and say that the article of the Constitution is being violated. We have a contradiction, I as a magistrate say that the government is playing. It is increasing the salaries of others and leaving me at the same level. In our country, the President's salary increases once every 10-15 years. I as a magistrate claim something like this, and there is nothing abnormal. Where is this resolved? In Court. We have the court's door ," he said.
