The Supreme Court 'overthrows' Beqaj, leaves seizure measures in force

The High Court has upheld the decision of the Special Appeals Court on the seizure of the assets of Ilir Beqaj and his accomplices involved in the theft of foreign funds.

SPAK's verifications show that several sums of money, cars, and shares of a private company that turned out to be involved have been blocked.

The suspicious money illegally obtained by Ilir Beqaj and his associates will continue to remain blocked.

The Supreme Court has rejected the request of former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj, Eduard Curraj, Ermal Kurtulaj, etc. who opposed the appeal decision to freeze their assets.

SPAK has announced that three bank accounts, three cars and several shares of a private company have been seized in connection with the theft of foreign funds.

The blocked bank accounts amount to 15 thousand Euros, 42 thousand Dollars and 14 million Lekë.

As for the shares, the prosecution refers to "Albanian Food and Hospitality Services" owned by Eduard Curraj.

The latter is considered the closest person to the former Minister of Health and was questioned by SPAK regarding invoices issued for SASPAC activities.

At the beginning of July, former minister Ilir Beqaj was arrested on suspicion of being involved in corruption and concealing assets while he was heading the SASPAC agency, which coordinates European Union funds in our country.

Along with him, 6 other people were taken under investigation, 2 of them arrested, 4 under milder security measures.

Another process for the Beqajs is the 100 million NIS sterilization concession, a case which has been presented by SPAK to the court for the initiation of legal proceedings.
