A World Health Organization report identifies heart disease as the leading cause of premature death in Europe, with 33.5% of early fatalities coming from cardiac problems in recent years.
In Albania, the figure is even higher. Heart disease causes more than half of premature deaths.
"Studies have been conducted in Albania for the years 2019-2020, where it was found that cardiovascular diseases are the cause of 53.4% of all deaths. Here we mention deaths from accidents, cancers, diabetes, respiratory and infectious pathologies," says the doctor.
The increase in cases of cardiac problems among whites is mostly related to lifestyle, with smoking and alcohol consumption ranking first as risk factors.
"As the main factors of cardiovascular morbidity, we mention lifestyle factors. Where we have smoking, drug use, sedentary life. Being more exposed to harmful factors such as alcohol and tobacco, a freedom in purchasing them, although the law prohibits their sale to minors, falling into direct contact with these negative factors, normally leads to damage to the cardiac system," said the doctor.
The exposure of young people to these negative habits has been seen by doctors as quite concerning, as heart disease is increasingly affecting young people, even 30-year-olds.
"From what we are seeing from the Primary Health Centers, but also from what has been reported by doctors, we can see the emergence of cardiovascular disease even in young people, which manifests itself with rhythm disorders, increased fat, chest pain or increased blood pressure, which is the most common. Up until the age of 30, we had problems...", the doctor concluded.
Doctors urge not to neglect the characteristic symptoms of heart problems, such as difficulty breathing, severe chest pain, or frequent headaches.
