The urban waste situation in the Tepelena Municipality has worsened, as around 8 tons of waste are deposited in the existing landfill every day, creating serious problems for the surrounding area.
According to reports on the ground, the debris has advanced to the electrical substation, increasing the safety risk and increasing environmental pollution. Residents and local observers consider the situation alarming, while the problem has been ongoing for a long time.
At the same time, the local leadership is facing criticism for a lack of concrete action. The mayor of Tepelena, Gramos Sako, is accused of not intervening effectively to resolve the situation, even though the problem has been steadily worsening.
On the other hand, the Municipality of Tepelena announces that funding has been secured, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and international donors, to improve waste management, within the framework of the Vjosa National Park and the UNESCO "Man and the Biosphere" program.
According to the municipality, the project envisages the closure of the current landfill and the construction of a transfer station, which will enable the transportation of waste to Bajkaj, in accordance with environmental standards.
However, until these measures are implemented, the situation on the ground remains problematic, raising questions about urgent interventions and institutional responsibility.
