Journalist Ferdinand Dervishi has called call centers one of the most profitable sectors of organized crime in Albania.
Dervishi explained that, although drug trafficking, mainly cocaine, and illegal gambling remain traditional sources of enrichment, call centers have become an extraordinary source of profit. According to the journalist, these structures generate around 500 million euros in monthly profit, with around 25,000 operators engaged.
He accused police leaders and politicians of being part of the mechanism that allows these networks to function, making it clear that corruption in Albania is not only related to tenders stolen from the state budget, but also to these modern criminal structures.
" In Albania, organized crime hides behind drug trafficking, mainly cocaine and illegal gambling. If we say where they get the most money, it is drugs and gambling control that are illegal in our country. These are the "gardens" of organized crime, but recently another fact has been crystallizing for me, which is the Call Center. If we believe the Italian journalist who has a monthly profit of 500 million euros, a figure that makes Albania dizzy and does as crime wants. There are 25 thousand operators. The big question is where this profit goes, who is behind the criminal Call Centers? The police are aware of where they are and maybe even protect them. Because the journalists at least notified the police, the police started the operation but someone turned them away. We have the police who are implementing an illegal and criminal order. The order comes from the police chiefs. But our politics that has this policeman who stole, can't not benefit? It's politics behind the police.
In Albania, I would say that corruption and the biggest profits come from stolen state budget tenders. They were happy even when the earthquake hit because they were going to steal funds, they don't care that people will die. The second place where they benefit the most is the Call Centers. I see that there are two major strikes against Call Centers, which shows that there is also an unraveling of the structures. It has been modified in the police since 2023 and the relevant sectors to put people connected to these people in charge , "he said on the show "This Week" on News24.
