A strike announced at several Greek border points will block the movement of vehicles on February 28, according to sources from the Albanian border police in Qafë Botë.
The strike, which was organized after the tragic accident in Tempi where 57 people lost their lives, will begin at 08:00 and will last until 24:00, Greek time.
According to the latest information, at the Greek Customs of Mavromatis, apart from ambulances and funeral cars, no other vehicles will be allowed to pass through the border crossing point. This means that vehicles will remain blocked, but citizens who will cross on foot from the Albanian point of Qafë Bota to the Greek one of Mavromatis, after checking their documentation, will be allowed to continue their journey on foot.
Also, the Border Police in Gjirokastra announces the work blockage at the Kakavija customs tomorrow, February 28. Due to the strike of Greek customs officers, only pedestrian movement will be allowed at the Kakavija customs from 07:00 to 23:00 Albanian time. During this time period, the movement of all vehicles will be blocked except for medical emergencies.
The Border Police has also been notified by the Greek side of a vehicle blockade on the same day and time, due to the Greek customs strike. Only pedestrians, vehicles transporting perishable products, and vehicles with health emergencies will be allowed to circulate.
This restriction by the Greek side is expected to significantly impact border traffic and cause concerns among travelers and economic operators who rely on border crossings to develop trade between the two countries.
