The London meeting emphasizes the fight against serious crime, illicit finance and irregular migration…

The United Kingdom has sent a strong message to Tirana regarding organized crime and its finances. London is calling for zero tolerance, while law enforcement agencies in both countries, the United Kingdom and Albania, are committed to combating organized and serious crime, illicit finance, irregular migration and increasing border security measures. This means that the British Government continues to be concerned about illegal immigration of Albanians to the United Kingdom, but not only.

Through a statement published today on the official website of the United Kingdom Home Office, it is announced that the two countries continue the dialogue, within the framework of the strategic partnership, agreed on May 15, 2025, during the visit of Prime Minister Edi Rama to London.

In the United Kingdom-Albania dialogue, referring to the statement of the British Home Office, it is stated that the parties confirmed the stable relations between the two countries and agreed to implement concrete commitments in priority areas.

Both countries appreciated the effective cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the justice system in the fight against organized crime. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to identifying, disrupting and prosecuting criminal groups linked to both countries, as well as to combating the illicit financial flows that support these activities.

The dialogue envisages deepening cooperation through broader institutional engagement and strengthening joint actions, including increasing capacities for collecting digital evidence in the fight against crime, including cybercrime.

The parties committed to increasing the exchange of information on criminal matters and to strengthening forensic capacities in Albania, including in cases with links to the United Kingdom. They also reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on criminal groups at the highest levels, in line with the commitments of the Berlin Process.

The parties considered illicit finance as a key factor that enables organized crime and undermines institutional integrity and public trust. The dialogue emphasized the need to strengthen institutional resilience in Albania to prevent abuse of the financial system.

The United Kingdom confirmed its support for Albania in strengthening integrity, fighting corruption and building sustainable justice institutions. Cooperation will focus on improving asset recovery through the development of the Asset Recovery Office, strengthening investigative and police capacities at the local level, and increasing the quality of case building and operational results.

Both governments considered the 2026 Illicit Finance Summit an important moment for increasing transparency and cooperation. Albania committed to implementing three concrete measures in line with the national strategy against organized crime.

The dialogue appreciated the existing cooperation in the field of border security and migration, including the Regional Joint Task Force on Migration. The parties stressed the importance of preventing irregular migration routes used by criminal groups.

In this context, the need to reduce illegal migration of Albanian citizens to the United Kingdom for illegal activities was underlined. The parties agreed to improve data exchange and risk analysis, as well as to develop sustainable solutions in Albania to address the factors that drive this phenomenon.

" Cooperation between Albania and the United Kingdom in these areas reflects the depth of bilateral relations and the shared goal of cracking down on organized crime and dismantling criminal networks that harm citizens."

"Both countries committed to monitoring the progress of these measures until the next Home Affairs Dialogue, which will be held in Albania in 2027 ," the British Home Office statement said.
