Analyst Arjan Curri said that the moment of the arrest of the former president of Albania, Ilir Meta, is very sad news for the respect of human rights.
Invited to Euronews Albania, he said that his arrest was made in a way as if Meta was being arrested, while such a risk did not exist.
Curri said that a person should have dignity even at the moment of arrest and punishment, while adding that such an arrest seems to be more of a personal grudge of the head of SPAK, who, according to Curri, seems to have been unable to endure the insults that were made by former president Meta.
" When ex-criminals or internationally wanted people are given the opportunity to come alone or accompanied by a police escort, Mr. Meta should have been given the opportunity to surrender. These looks are crowd pleasers and nothing else. These do not serve the images of a serious state.
For me it is a very sad moment and news for the respect of human rights. Man should have dignity even when he is imprisoned, when he is punished and when he is judged. There were no escape attempts.
She is there as if Meta was going to escape and they went and caught her there. For me, it is the anger expressed by a SPAK official who for months has not tolerated the insults that Ilir Meta has done to him and this moment he had in hand to make this kind of arrest. SPAK has a title holder, why should we honor him and mention his name, that they will sue him for defamation ", said Curri.
Analyst Curri also said that he had predicted this arrest since June.
