Through a letter addressed to the Municipal Council of Himara, Mayor Jorgo Goro, after being arrested a few days ago, has resigned from his post.
In the letter, Goro states that he is in an absurd situation with the justice system for a 'guilt' he did not commit, but that he will face this in court where he will present the facts.
He states that he wants Himara to continue the work started and that the old traditional neighborhood between the two states does not become hostage to local speculators disguised as victims of a new state injustice that does not exist for Himariot properties.
Even though today he is in a cell, Goro says that he left his job with his head held high and his heart full of gratitude.

Prefect of Vlora District
dear,
It was a great honor and special motivation to serve my city for 12 years and 10 months as the first citizen thanks to the vote of my Himariots. I ran to win and although I lost, I remained in office these days with truncated formal and moral legitimacy.
The extremely close result with a 19-vote difference was not in my favor, and the negative developments after the elections were neither in my will nor in my hands. I could not leave the office because there was no one to take it, and my departure would only add to the confusion when Himara became the apple of an absurd political conflict at the highest levels between the two states.
Although I knew how closely the threads of propaganda manipulation for allegedly saving Himara's properties were intertwined with the threads of electoral manipulation to fill the buses with promises and the pockets of electoral passengers with money, I did not expect that result. But I had no way to speak and throw fuel to a fire of division that engulfed the media of Athens and Tirana and reached Brussels. An Anatolian minority organization unfortunately convinced an EU country that it is allegedly fighting for human rights in Himara. In fact, that organization is orchestrated by ignorant people, without scruples and without ideals. Except for money and brandy! Greedy tricksters who know who and what I'm talking about. Tamam is a gang from the dark ages that is kept for political strength. Himara and the Greek minority as a whole have seen and will see only the quarrel as long as their mask does not fall even in Athens.
Himara is too small to become a bone of contention between the two neighboring countries. While my claims about the motherland were made with all kinds of tricks, the lists of assistance and scholarships across the border, the threats to remove the residence papers there to bring voters who had fled from Himara as children and never set foot again, the payments with list for buying votes, they no longer had any meaning after the arrest of the "winner" in flagrante delicto. I shook his hand when the count was over and closed my chapter with my mouth.
But I can say that the violence of that "victory" with less than 20 votes was much greater than it seems from what is heard in the media about the investigation. The only thing I want today is that Himara continues the work started and the old traditional neighborhood between two states does not become hostage to some local speculators disguised as victims of a new state injustice that does not exist for Himariot properties. A ridiculous and dangerous folly set up as an interstate trap by these mischievous speculators.
Himara today has the status of its total transformation, where the property once destined to provoke even family tragedy is worth many times more. Where every resident has medical services, it sees significant and continuous investments in education, infrastructure, electricity, drinking water, etc. And to go to tourism, Himara was once only with Albanians from the country and Kosovo today is the champion of mass attendance of millions of tourists from all over the world. Not in hotels and residences built on properties looted from the state for the "oligarchs" as the Anatolian speculators of the locality shout, but in land contracted at ever more favorable prices or conditions from any Himariot family that wished to give it to them. themselves for development.
Meanwhile, since the weekend that just passed, I am in an absurd situation with justice for a crime that I did not commit. I am accused of "abuse of duty in cooperation" with officials in Vlora that I have no connection with and of "falsification" of documents that are passed to the mayor only for signature. But this is an absurdity that I will have to face before the court with my facts and the right that I have by law and morals.
Therefore, thanking from the bottom of my heart all the people of Himariot (whether they voted for me or not, this thanks is not shared by them), for all the great honor they have given me in these years, I resign from office with my head held high and my heart full of humble gratitude. Of course, I wanted my departure to be different and not with a letter from a detention cell, but this is life, we can't choose the bad guys who find us!
With much respect,
Jorgo Goro
