Today, the special preliminary investigation judge, Erjon Bani, is expected to review the request for release from prison of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
Veliaj has been in a detention cell in Durres for more than 2 months, suspected of 2 charges, for passive corruption and money laundering.
The Mayor of Tirana is seeking to be released from his cell and has addressed the Special Court with a request to revoke or replace the security measure of arrest with prison, a measure which was also confirmed by the Special Appeal on February 12, and which his lawyers are expected to appeal to the High Court.
The mayor has also requested 2 months of information from the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office regarding the investigations being conducted against him.
