Parliament set up today with 74 votes in favor and 6 against the commission that will aim to implement the reforms needed for Albania's membership in the European Union, which will focus on the fight against corruption.
Analyst Ergys Mërtiri spoke about this issue today in the central news edition of Vizion Plus.
Through a direct connection with Skype, Mërtiri said that the establishment of the anti-corruption commission is a step to protect the work that SPAK is doing against attacks that can be made by both sides, both from the opposition and from the majority.
Mertiri said that even Rama himself has concerns from SPAK, and that he is obviously using means to hinder him.
Roland Zili: How do you see the establishment of this commission and is it the right time for such a commission in the framework of justice reform?
Ergys Mertiri: The time is right to let SPAK do its job. For the first time we have an institution that is working and putting all the corrupt people of the Albanian political scene in difficulties. It is even scaring the entire Albanian political class. For the first time, we have an institution that is lining up a number of figures who are entering SPAK, some are being investigated and some have already gone behind bars and some have fled. This means that here we have an institution that is fighting those who have historically been considered untouchable. For me, it is good news that we have an institution that is working in this direction and the only thing that the Albanian political class and the public need is to protect this institution from the attacks that come from both sides, both from the opposition from Sali Berisha and from Edi Rama himself, who obviously has his own concerns from SPAK and will obviously find means to prevent him... I believe that Albanians in general have no reason to believe in Edi Rama's guarantees, because Edi Rama's guarantees, Rama e has lost the chance to make us believe in his guarantees. He has been in power for 12 years and has not produced what he promised. In 12 years, the country plunged into corruption.
