The Union of Employees of the Universities of Albania has reacted to the incident that happened yesterday, where the lawyer of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, Sokol Mêngjesi, was brutally assaulted by 4 people.
Through a statement to the media, this union says that teachers, professors, administration, politics and the whole society are facing an increased risk in recent years.
According to this union, these categories of people are vulnerable to crime, who are encouraged to commit such acts of vandalism in the middle of the capital.
Also, in the statement of the union, it is said that the deep political division, the slander, arrogance and nepotism have encouraged these acts of violence even more.

On the punishment of violence against lawyer and professor Sokol Mêngjesi.
The violence perpetrated against the lawyer/lecturer/professor Sokol Mêngjesi due to the exercise of his duty, has outraged public opinion in general and the academic world in particular, of which Professor Mêngjesi is also a member.
SPONGE. expresses indignation at this event and prays that prof. May Sokol Mêngjesi recover as soon as possible, so that he can continue with the same dignity his mission in defense of the right in society and its transmission in the auditorium.
This serious event shows that professors, teachers, administration, all politics and our society are facing a great danger that has increased in years. They are vulnerable to crime, which in the absence of the functioning of state authorities (we take into account the place and time when the event occurred), as well as the reaction of these authorities, also influenced by the professional profile (and not only) of the injured party and reports his with politics, are encouraged to do such acts with unimaginable arrogance in the heart of the city.
In this situation, it is the moment for the entire political and state decision-making body of the country to do a deep analysis, to understand as soon as possible that it has already gone too far, with its own actions and inactions, which have encouraged violence and crime. The state's attitude towards crime, together with the current political vocabulary, overloaded with a lot of bluster, division, epithets, exclusions, arrogance, corruption, nepotism and above all with ignorance, encourages it more. This model of communication and lack of functioning of the state has degraded the social and political discourse of the country and increased the lack of trust of society in it, as well as increased insecurity and worsened the quality of life in Albania.
The union thanks the doctors and auxiliary staff of the hospital and believes that the state police and other law enforcement agencies will conduct a professional and thorough investigation of the case, clarifying the truth and bringing justice, not only for this case. We pray that Professor Sokol Mêngjesi will be among us very soon, to make his contribution to the benefit of our society!
