Ben Blushi comes to this book fair with "The Conspiracy", which was first presented in Kosovo last week and from today it will also be available to readers in Albania.
In an interview for "News 24", he says that the idea came to him during numerous visits to Shengjin, where there are dozens of Afghans left in our country for several years.
- Ben Blushi comes to the reader with the novel "Conspiracy" which, a few days after its publication, has aroused debates and interest from the public, due to the topic it deals with, the way it deals with it and the characters it has. How did the idea for "Conspiracy" come about? You finished writing in the spring, yet it seems to have predicted events that are already happening.
- It is a beautiful coincidence because all these days they have written to me or asked me how it is possible that you predicted that after many years Shengjini will turn into a municipality of foreigners, more precisely immigrants. These last few days there was an agreement with Italy and it looks like it was decided. Of course, it is a figment of the imagination. I have often gone to Shengjin, where there are many Afghans, for two years, and that's where the idea of a conspiracy came to me, in a country like Albania, which is empty. So the basic idea of the book is what will happen to Albania after 20 years, if our population falls, that is, it decreases even more than that. We had a population of less than 3 million, while today we are probably 2 and a half million, where it is known that after 20 years we will be 1 and a half million due to high emigration and the drop in births. Fewer babies are born today than ever before in Albania. 36,000 babies were born here a year, while now less than 35,000 babies are born. So our population decline is drastic. We feel that we are a small nation. The idea of the book is what happens to Albania if the number of Albanians decreases and the foreign population, refugees or immigrants, increases. In a country like Albania, which, for better or worse, is a European country, there will be no German, English, or Swedish refugees, but there will be immigrants from countries less developed than us, which could be Asian or African countries as is being talked about. . And when these will come, as it happens in France, Italy, or Belgium, they will organize to get more economic power, more social or political power. This is the idea of the "Conspiracy", a conflict between Albanians and foreigners who come here, to create a bigger state.
-Events take place in the future.
-In the year 2044, that is, after 20 years, so all those who think it is related to today's situation should be calm, every coincidence is a coincidence.
- But can we go ahead?
Those who govern today will not be happy in 20 years.
- We can't know that, can we?
We don't know that, you're right.
-You bring back some names and take from history, Rauf Fico's pinjoll, which is one of the characters in your work "Conspiracy". You have an attempt to bring back some well-known historical figures, Albanian or not. Is this about your passion, or is it to show that Albania had big families?
These are some techniques that I use in most of my books, from the first books until today. I take historical characters and bring them back into a different context. I've done it often and I have it here too. One of the main characters is the grandson of a foreign minister of Albania before the war, Rauf Ficos. It gives a certain direction to the "Conspiracy", it is part of the conspiracy. In addition to Rauf Fico's grandson, I also have another very well-known character, which is Leon Trotsky.
- Who is the grandson of Trotsky, a well-known historical figure for the East and Communism?
- Not only for the east, but for the whole world. Leon Trotsky was the man who improvised the entire Russian proletarian or communist revolution in 1917. If Lenin was the mind, he was the hand. Leon Trotsky staged a coup that overthrew Tsarist Russia and established communism in Russia, and communism from Russia was exported throughout the East and as far as Albania. Before the revolution in Russia, Leon Trotsky, in 1913, Leon Trotsky, was a young Ukrainian Jew who was brought by the newspaper where he worked to cover the Serbian massacres of 1913 in the Macedonian area, in Gostivar, Skopje and Tetovo. . And this is a real event.
-In the areas where there are Albanians?
- Yes, in the areas where there are Albanians. He came and lived there for about 3 months and his reports about the Serbian massacres of Albanians are fantastic. Very painful but very real, they are like a photograph. I got this detail that is true and in the novel he has a relationship with an Albanian girl and Trotsky's grandson is a character in my book.
