Ardit Bido and Sidorela Vatnikaj

Activist Sidorela Vatnikaj debated with Socialist Party MP Ardit Bido regarding the clash between protesters and the State Police in front of the Parliament.

Vatnikaj said that the violence started with the police, which he called "private police", while saying that Parliament does not represent them because it is filled with illiterates.

MP Bido responded by saying that there was violence against the police and called the ban on MPs from entering the parliament a "coup".

Debate:

Sidorela Vatnikaj: This started without us gathering as protesters. We had announced that we would be in Parliament, to tell Parliament that the people are on the streets and demanding his resignation. A boy was raped, with a bleeding nose, we have not had contact with him. They were arrested. That's how it started. Parliament was surrounded, it is absurd to surround Parliament. There was an attack on the eyes, on the nose, with spray, in a violent manner without being provoked at all by the protesters.

We have been saying for more than a month that Prime Minister Rama, the parliament, do not represent us. We have been peacefully demanding for a month, we have been demanding that the normal functioning of the parliament be stopped because the people are in the square. We cannot continue parliamentary work as if nothing has happened. This protest has had echoes throughout Europe and the world. It cannot be that only the parliament has not heard about it. Police violence has been unjustified, it has not been in proportion to the actions and numbers of the protesters. Egg throwing happens in every country in Europe at every protest. Let's see MPs, like Taulant Balla and Braçe before, attacking the police with tear gas and rubber batons against peaceful protesters. It is unprecedented. We do not have a state, but private police.

Ardit Bido: The police had taken measures, which for me should be criticized for the last part of the session that did not guarantee the cordon for the deputies to leave. First of all, it has to do with the fact that we are citizens of this country and whoever normalizes violence against citizens does not know that he lives in a democracy. The police have the monopoly of force.

Sidorela Vatnikaj: How proud you are that you have a monopoly on violence...

Ardit Bido: Please, I heard your voice screaming.

Sidorela Vatnikaj: Even today I shouted "thief" when you entered.

Ardit Bido: If things were resolved with physical force, democracy has fallen. In no way can you claim to be a representative of Albanians. There were 200 protesters in parliament and I don't know, 60 thousand in the square? To think that you are a representative of Albanians, that you stop the functioning of institutions, means anarchy. Back to 97. You impose yourself on the deputies elected to represent the citizens.

Sidorela Vatnikaj: You were appointed because someone else collected your votes.

Ardit Bido: What I saw today with my own eyes, I saw how you were going to throw me in the trash. I saw today how Ramion Kurti was beaten with eggs.

Sidorela Vatnikaj: You are lying, you are ridiculous. You are the prime minister's megaphone.

Ardit Bido: I saw eggs being thrown at me and other colleagues.

Sidorela Vatnikaj:  You were brought in 3 hours before the hearing. You lie even about easily verifiable facts.

Ardit Bido: You don't know me.

Sidorela Vatnikaj: You have shown yourself publicly. Everything you say is in the function of propaganda. Can you apologize for lying?

Ardit Bido: You said yes, I don't apologize for your lie.

Sidorela Vatnikaj: A person who lies about trivial facts.

Ardit Bido : Win a debate with an argument, not like this.

Sidorela Vatnikaj: You need to have a little critical thinking, that's why we call you an illiterate parliament.

Ardit Bido: I am a university professor. What I noticed today is that eggs have been thrown at my fellow MPs. There have been attempts to intimidate them. I am not intimidated, I believe in debate and argument. We have seen stones thrown at the police. Preventing MPs from entering or leaving the parliament by intimidating them with physical violence is an attempt at a coup. It is a small group of people who are seizing the protest. Democracy is not being intimidated, there is no chance for someone to intimidate an MP.
