The appeal of the GJKKO has upheld the 1-year prison sentence for the mayor of Rrogozhina, Edison Memolla. Following this decision, Memolla is expected to be arrested to serve his sentence.
Memolla was sentenced to 1 year in prison by the first instance of the Criminal Court of Kosovo, while he appealed the decision.
The investigations into the mayor of Rrogozhina began after an audio recording was published in the media, where, according to SPAK, Edison Memolla, at the time a candidate for mayor of Rrogozhina, can be heard influencing an OSHEE employee not to cut off the electricity to a debtor subscriber.
Prosecutor Edvin Kondili, during the court hearings, stated that all this was done with the aim of getting citizens to vote in his favor in the local by-elections on March 6, 2022.
In addition to the 1-year prison sentence, the GJKKO decided as an additional punishment that for the next 5 years Memolla cannot hold any public office.
