The industry sector has had a negative performance in the first three months of this year, while companies have been forced to raise wages, according to INSTAT's short-term statistics, which are the earliest indicator of Gross Domestic Product.
In contrast, construction continued with strong growth.
Declining industry
The indices of indicators in the Industry activity, in the first quarter of 2024, are presented as follows:
* The index of net sales in volume marked a decrease of 3.6%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The volume production index decreased by 3.5%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The index of the number of employees marked a decrease of 3.8%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The index of the wage fund increased by 7.0%, compared to the same period of the previous year.
Electricity is also declining
The indices of indicators in the activity Electricity, Gas, Steam, in the first quarter of 2024, are presented as follows:
* The index of net sales in volume marked a decrease of 13.7%, compared to the same period a year ago;
* The volume production index decreased by 7.9%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The index of the number of employees increased by 2.6%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The index of the wage fund increased by 8.9%, compared to the same period of the previous year
Water supply, waste treatment and management:
The indices of indicators in the activity Water supply and waste treatment and management, in the first quarter of 2024, are presented as follows:
* The net sales index in volume marked a decrease of 0.4%, compared to the same period a year ago ;
* The volume production index decreased by 0.1%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The index of the number of employees registered an increase of 4.0%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The index of the wage fund increased by 15.7%, compared to the same period of the previous year.
Construction with double digit extension
The indices of indicators in the Construction activity, in the first quarter of 2024, are presented as follows:
* The index of net sales in volume marked an increase of 13.6%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The volume production index increased by 9.0%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The index of the number of employees increased by 2.2%, compared to the same period of the previous year;
* The salary fund index increased by 20.6%, compared to the same period a year ago./Monitor
