About 2100 tons of industrial waste are expected to arrive in Albania on Monday evening. Former deputy Igli Cara commented on the situation of this import of hazardous waste during the "Barometer" show on Euronews Albania.
The waste is suspected of containing harmful toxic substances, packed in 102 containers, according to information from the US non-governmental organization Basel Action Network.
Cara emphasized that we still do not have a customs declaration from the government, which according to him should clarify who organized this import.
" The government, at the beginning, must say who did it. Has a customs declaration been issued? Today, at this moment, we do not have a customs declaration. Everyone knows that there is a system in Customs that provides these declarations. We do not know who the exporter was; to this day we do not know what was declared. We do not know the name of the remains. Today, the government does not have a statement and shows a marked lack of transparency of the event ," he said.
This situation has raised concern among citizens and experts, who demand transparency and immediate actions from the authorities to ensure the health and safety of the public.
