The great writer Ismail Kadare will be sent to his last residence today.
The government announced on Monday two days of mourning in honor of the genius of Albanian letters, who passed away on the morning of July 1 at the age of 88.
Kadare will be escorted with a state ceremony, while the tributes will be held in the premises of the Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The colossus of Albanian letters, Ismail Kadare, has been awarded internationally with a number of titles. He received the last decoration "Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor" on October 16, 2023 from the President of France Emmanuel Macron during a ceremony in Tirana.
He made Albania a part of world literature.
The state ceremony for honoring and passing on the last distinguished personality of Albanian Letters, Ismail Kadare, will start at 09:00 with public tributes at the National Theater of Opera, Ballet and Popular Ensemble.
At 11:30 a.m. the farewell ceremony will be held, while the procession will leave for the Tufina cemetery around 12:30 p.m.
The funeral expenses will be fully covered by the Ministry of Culture. On Wednesday at 13:00, a minute of silence will be held throughout the country, as Wednesday has been declared a day of mourning in Kosovo as well.

13.00- Every activity will be interrupted and a minute of silence will be held in honor of the colossus of Albanian letters.
The Council of Ministers approved two days of mourning in honor of the writer Ismail Kadare, who closed his eyes forever today at the age of 88. Even today, flags in state and public institutions are lowered to half-mast.
