Analyst Fatos Lubonja, invited to the studio of the show "Open" on News24, spoke about the re-opening of the debate on communist symbols by the Catholic Church.
Lubonja said that Albanians have not faced the trauma of the past, while adding that this is showing in today's behavior, taking the Socialist Party as an example. He further said that the Albanians have not achieved what is called 'clearing accounts' or social peace.
"The debate should be on this topic: "Have Albanians faced their communist past. Did they cope well or badly? Why do we need this knowledge of the past? To give reparations and decorations, or not to repeat the past?". For me, Albanians have not faced their communist past. Because this confrontation has not been done, what is called 'reconciliation' or social peace has not been achieved. Rather there is a repetition of the past. In the essence of oneself one sees the repetition of the past in the present. The problem is the repetition of the past in the youth as a culture. It is not done not facing the trauma of the past and it shows in today's behavior. It appears today in the PS of Rama, not by repeating but with the tyranny of the majority. A leader emerges from us and he is eternal. One of the characteristics of fascism, communism, Nazism, yesterday's communism was the leader. They are all shades of comedy that continue to be transmitted to new generations.
The criticism I have for the Catholic Church, what is the Church? It is an important institution that should educate people and participate in today's events. We also have a big problem, which is political polarization. The Church must speak and intervene with its own forms. For me, this work is not done by law", said Lubonja.
