Journalist Elton Qyno has made strong accusations regarding the operation of fraudulent schemes through call centers in Albania, as well as the role of state institutions in the face of this phenomenon.
Qyno stated that thousands of young people have been involved in fraudulent activities targeting citizens abroad, using large databases of personal data, which, according to him, were obtained illegally.
"30 thousand young people get up and start cheating. Whoever eats it, eats it, whoever doesn't eats it, it continues with the next one, one after another. They have a very large database that they have taken from these banks, who has a bank account abroad and these endless phone calls start ," said Qyno.
The journalist questioned the stance of Albanian institutions, suggesting that the lack of intervention is related to the fact that the victims are abroad and there are no direct complaints in Albania. According to him, this has created a climate of tolerance towards illegal activity.
"But the thing is, what are the Albanian institutions doing, because they all know that this is illegal. And the fact that they have brought this scheme here, this shows that as long as Albanians are not affected by this history of fraud, and these people are deceiving abroad, let them continue," he told "Syri TV".
The journalist also alluded to possible benefits from various state structures, including the police and tax administration, emphasizing that they may have knowledge of the activity.
"This is the policy and philosophy of the government itself, at least as far as we understand it. They are being cheated abroad, there are no complaints here in Albania. Young people are employed, they are well off... The police themselves take their toll. Taxes as well, and other structures. So everyone is satisfied," the journalist declared.
He also mentioned a case of appointment to the administration, emphasizing that a person connected to this phenomenon had become part of state institutions.
"The government appointed him. He became an advisor to Olta Xhaçka at the Ministry of Defense at that time, and was removed from there only due to media pressure," Qyno added.
