DP activist Aulon Kalaja has revealed details of the moments before he lost consciousness during the opposition protest on April 17. Kalaja said he was attacked by police in riot gear and pepper spray was thrown at him.
While explaining the clashes with the police, he emphasized that at one point he was unable to breathe from the spray and lost consciousness, falling to the ground. Kalaja adds that he asked for help from a person and was then taken to the hospital where he began to recover a little.
He states that he has fractures to his neck, shoulder, and head from the violence. Kalaja adds that he must wear a collar for 21 days.
" The moment I turned my back on the police, I was hit by the diving suit on the back of my neck, on the bone. At that moment, I tried to run away, I suffocated and couldn't breathe. I fell on the boulevard.
Yes, this is the moment I lost consciousness. As far as I remember, I grabbed a guy's leg. I thought he was a policeman because it looked like these police bells when I fell and I said help me and they called an ambulance. That's all I remember.
I think the ambulance was very late, I have the impression, that is, that is what I get from the conversations I had with people. I thought I was in the QSUT, while I had been in the military hospital, because I was unconscious from time to time and I could not open my eyes, because the large amount of spray that they had thrown at me had burned my head, that is, my scalp.
I had a very severe neck pain and I was asking for a doctor, I don't know who it was who asked to communicate with me and told me where the pain was and I was pointing and I said I want you to look at my neck because that's where I have a problem.
The question was whether I had numbness, fortunately I didn't have numbness and they put me in the scanner. At the time they put me in the scanner there I started to become active. I was in the ambulance with Luciano Boçi. There were about eight of us in the ambulance. There was a big mess and then they put me in the hospital.
"I had a vein puncture in my arm and at that moment the epidural came out. The answer was that I had a contusion, a collapse in the neck, shoulder and head, the plane of the head here in the back. They told me that I have to wear this collar for 21 days to see how the situation will continue ," he said, among other things.
