"Bring the boss 500 euros a month", Karamuço: Road managers

Criminalistics expert Ervin Karamuço has commented on the order of Police Chief Skënder Hita to stop police patrols from routine checks on national roads. According to Karamuço, in the past there have been problematic practices within the traffic police structures, where certain leaders focused more on imposing fines and pressuring subordinates to secure sums of money than on respecting road safety.

Karamuço pointed out that today, especially on national roads, the necessary technology exists to monitor road traffic, including speed measurement and photographing vehicles, which, according to him, makes it unnecessary to stop drivers for routine checks.

In conclusion, the expert described the abolition of this practice as a positive step, emphasizing that the bans on verification were used to extract illegal benefits, which were then passed on to managers, in contrast to the risk of losing their jobs.

"We have had traffic chiefs who have not paid attention to these things and have focused on imposing fines on their subordinates, up to 500 euros. They were even required to bring 500 euros to the chief every 1st, while accompanying wanted persons with fenelins. This problem initially became political and then passed to law enforcement agencies. From the first day I was told that the director gave the verbal order, and then, about a week later, it was revealed and sent to the police stations.

Today, especially on national roads, we have the necessary technology, which measures speed and photographs vehicles. There is no longer any reason for police officers to be on the road, especially for checks, because checking often means corruption. If there is a violation, the citizen should be stopped for that violation and fined directly. Documents should no longer be required simply for routine checks. Those 500 euros that police officers gave to their bosses were part of this scheme: they stopped for checks to extract money, which they would then hand over to the boss, as otherwise they would risk their job. This was a corrupt practice and was finally abolished ," he said on the "Real Story" show.
