The Greek media have started disinformation and attacks regarding the integration of Albania and the case of Fredi Beleri.
According to "Kathimerin", Albania is not mentioned as a candidate country in the European Union in the Enlargement chapter of the latest draft of the next European Council, which starts on Thursday.
According to the Greek newspaper, this development is related to the case of the arrest of Fredi Beleri, especially after the Special Court of Tirana rejected on Monday his request for limited permission to be sworn in as mayor of Himara.
Athens had warned in time about the consequences in case there would be any deviation from the very clear conditions defined and related to the respect of the rule of law.
Greece has already presented a written statement, which accompanied the letter of the European Council for the opening of negotiations with Albania, establishing three basic conditions for promoting the acceptance of Tirana. These are Beller's oath, his fair trial and respect for the presumption of innocence ," the Greek newspaper writes.
Undoubtedly, the Greek side will continue consultations in the hours before the Thursday summit regarding the formulation of final conclusions for Albania, reports "Kathimerini".
The enlargement chapter includes references in separate paragraphs to other candidate countries (Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and North Macedonia). The reference to North Macedonia is particularly interesting, at a time when that of Albania is absent, since the candidacy of the two countries is considered linked ", concludes the Greek newspaper that earlier reported that from Greek diplomatic sources, it learns that Greece will veto integration of Albania.
