Unstable weather and severe atmospheric conditions have caused serious problems on some of the country's main road axes this weekend.
On the Kardhiq - Delvinë axis, from the exit of the tunnel and in the entire surrounding area, the dense fog that began on Saturday afternoon continues at these moments, significantly reducing visibility and making vehicle traffic difficult.
According to traffic police sources, five accidents with material damage have been recorded so far, while Saranda Police patrols are on the ground to guide drivers. Authorities have asked drivers to reduce speed and use lights while driving.
Meanwhile, the rainfall has not reduced the flow of movement in Elbasan, where heavy traffic has once again become the main problem of the weekend.
Long lines of vehicles have formed at the entrance from the Tirana axis, in the Bradashesh area, as well as at the exits towards Librazhd and Korça. Drivers have faced delays and slow movement for several kilometers.
According to road traffic specialists, during weekends up to 30 thousand vehicles circulate in the main segments of Elbasan, while on normal days the flow varies from 18 to 25 thousand vehicles.
Transport experts attribute the situation to the lack of infrastructure capacity to cope with the current volume of vehicles. The construction of the Elbasan Bypass is considered the main project to ease traffic in the coming years.
The traffic police have increased their presence in the field both in the south of the country and in Elbasan to avoid accidents and total blockages on the most problematic axes.
