The Kukes region has been hit by bad weather since morning, with heavy rain and dense fog in the early hours of Sunday, especially in low-lying areas and valleys. Due to the high intensity of the rainfall, problems have been reported on several rural and national roads.
According to preliminary information, in the national segments Kukës–Qafë Mali, Kukës–Bushtricë, Kukës–Shishtavec, Kukës–Kam–Tropojë and Kukës–Bushtricë–Peshkopi there is water on the surface, while in some parts of the road there have been recorded falls of stones and inert materials. Authorities call on drivers to exercise increased caution while driving.
The National Road has also suffered from the consequences of bad weather. The Kolsh–Kalimash Tunnel segment was covered in dense fog, making vehicle traffic difficult. At two other points, respectively at the entrance to the city of Kukës and near the old bridge over the Black Drini, rock and soil falls were recorded. The teams of the Municipality of Kukës have intervened to clean the road and remove the materials, while the entrance segment to the city was temporarily flooded by water.

Due to the landslides and the presence of water, drivers have reduced their speed to avoid possible accidents. On the other hand, the recent rainfall is welcome for the Albanian Power Corporation as it is expected to help increase the water level in Lake Fierza, the largest watershed of the Drini cascade, which had been at a critical level for weeks due to the lack of rainfall.
This situation has brought to the surface the ruins of old Kukes, which usually remain under the waters of the lake. According to meteorological forecasts, the rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days./ A2CNN
