Even though a fund of 200 million lek was reallocated at the beginning of November to immediately resolve the shortages of oncology drugs, the situation seems not to be the same and patients do not notice any change.
The oncology service continues to lack drugs used during and after chemotherapy for breast cancer patients. The mammography equipment, which was not functioning during October, has been put back into operation, but the brachytherapy equipment, which allows radiation very close to the tumor and without damaging healthy tissue, is not yet operational.
Sources within the oncology service said that contracts for oncology drugs are being renewed and some of them will resume next week, while work is being done to add positions for chemotherapy and adjust the time slots for performing this procedure.
Meanwhile, for 2026, the draft budget foresees a fund of 1 billion lek that goes only to oncology, which also includes new drugs that will be included in the list of refillable drugs./ TCH
