"The lack of sex is challenging", confess the monks who live in Farka:

Invited to the show "Real People" on Euronews Albania, this Saturday, were three monks of the Krishna faith, who have chosen the Farka area in Tirana to live temporarily.

Monk Sankirtan Das explained to moderator Flor Gjini the reasons why they consume only cow's milk.

According to them, the body needs animal proteins to provide the necessary energy and the best way to get them in a "civilized" way is by consuming milk and not eating meat.

He said that the cow is considered as a mother because it feeds people with milk throughout their life, just like a mother does with newborns.

"In general, the body needs an animal-based protein to function well, and the most civilized way is when you get it from animals without harming them. This milk is considered a very good and significant source of energy for humans. It is actually processed blood that he takes in a very humane way. With milk you get the same values as if you eat meat. The cow is considered as our mother because it gives us milk. Our mother feeds us with milk at the beginning of our life and then throughout our life we are fed by cows with milk," he said.

Sankirtan Das, one of the 3 monks, showed the 4 basic rules that must be respected if you want to become part of this faith: "If you want to become part of this faith, you must respect 4 basic rules: Be a vegetarian, do not drink alcohol/cigarettes/ coffee/black tea, not to be addicted to betting and not to have sex, except for reproductive reasons".

The last criterion is the most difficult to apply, which even Sankirtan Das admits.

"I live as a monk, I don't have a wife, which means I don't have sex. That's why we don't have as many members as we should have if we were more tolerant especially in the principles of sex. Because for many people it is a bit challenging to follow this path. It takes a lot of willpower to get it right. It is difficult but we have our methods to cope with it; we associate with other monks, we stay together and this gives us strength. And we have something that we call the greatest taste, so when you get the greatest taste from spiritual practices, you no longer have a taste for something smaller," he said.
