Actress Rajmonda Bulku has expressed her pain and respect for actress Margarita Xhepa, who passed away at the age of 91, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy in Albanian theater and cinema.
Bulku recalled the moment she first met Xhepa at the age of 16 during the filming of the film “The Last Winter.” She emphasized the actress’s extraordinary beauty and talent, who, even when playing the role of an older villager, shone with her presence and professionalism.
"Margarita was an actress and a friend that we will all miss. In the movie "The Last Winter", I was 16 years old when I went to play the role and that's where I saw Margarita Xhepa for the first time. She was so beautiful that I just sat there and watched her. At a young age she had to play the role of a peasant and they just pushed her to age her, but she just shone. She couldn't be ugly because she played the role with her amazing talent.
"Her eyes lit up and her performances were extraordinary. I had my first contact when I was 16, but then we were colleagues in the theater and it was a pleasure to work with Margarita. She was a talent and you were left breathless with her beauty and talent. She was a very good friend, you could communicate very easily with her. Margarita had a big heart and an open mind with all ages ," said actress Bulku.
Bulku said that Margarita Xhepa was capable of playing with the greatest professionalism any role given to her, in dramas, comedies and films, leaving a great impact on Albanian art and was a symbol of Albanian women in cinematography.
"Margarita had left her mark in Greece, we should be proud of her not only inside but also outside. She was wonderful with a rare feminine charm in cinema. She also played tragedy very beautifully, she was a very dimensional figure, she played in comedy, she played Albanian drama with a lot of personality for the Albanian woman. Whatever role you gave Margarita, she immersed herself in it, she was very dedicated, demanding and persistent to do her best. She was a model of discipline, work and seriousness and if you worked with her you would follow in her footsteps. She lived until the end loving the stage, the screen and meetings with people ," she told "RTSH".
Actress Bulku also recalled her last meeting with Margarita at the time she was hospitalized.
"The last conversation I had was when she was in the hospital and she didn't say I'm sick, she was always optimistic. Leaving like Margarita is a value, an honor and she will be remembered in an extraordinary way. She will be remembered for the miracles she gave to Albanian art and society ," the actress concluded.
Margarita Xhepa played 150 roles in theater and 32 in films, always considered one of the “Great Ladies” of Albanian stage and screen. In 2003, Xhepa was honored with the title “Honor of the Nation,” an appreciation for her extraordinary contribution to art and culture. She also held the title of “People’s Artist” and had left a profound impact on every generation that has followed her work.
