Athens' intervention for Zvërnec, Mustafa Nano: Not even flies leave
Mustafa Nano

Journalist Mustafa Nano has reacted to the recent developments in Zvërnec, following the reaction of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the issue of the rights and properties of members of the Greek minority in the area.

Through a reaction, Nano ironizes the situation by commenting on Athens' intervention in this matter.

"Regarding the event in Zvërnec, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reacted in defense of the 'rights and properties of members of the Greek Minority' there!!! Leave the donkey that killed us, but even the flies won't leave you alone," he writes.

Land ownership claims are legitimate, but they should be resolved through legal means and not by hindering the development of the project. This is what Prime Minister Edi Rama said regarding the protests over the investment project in Zvërnec.

During the Socialist Party parliamentary group meeting, Rama explained that the land has been registered as a mortgage for years and that negotiations between investors and owners are a private matter, in which the government has not intervened.

Following the reactions from Greece following the incidents reported during the protests in Zvërnec, Rama said that it was the first time he had heard claims about the existence of a homogeneous Greek population in that territory.

"For the first time yesterday I heard that there was a homogeneous Greek population there, I had not heard this. I was amazed by the statement of the Greek Foreign Ministry that it was an act of violence, but not an act of state violence as happens with Albanians in Greek prisons. It was by a group of private guards. And for the state to stand up and underline the ethnicity of the protestor is something that does not serve our relations," said Rama.

Rama reiterated that the right to protest is guaranteed and that the government has protected it from day one, even in cases where protests have resulted in damage to police forces.

"The claims are legitimate, but they are resolved in the courts. The right to protest cannot be questioned in any way in this country, we have defended it from day one, even at the cost of having serious injuries to police forces in some cases. Political attacks on the project from internal forces, or from external forces, do not want this project, this is competition, we have entered a different territory than we were. This project raises Albania to another level," Rama said.
