The new judicial map, which significantly reduced the number of courts in the country, has been implemented since February 1 of this year, but this Tuesday it was the subject of discussion in the Constitutional Court.
This court starts the review of the appeal made by the Chamber of Advocates of Albania against the government's decision to approve the redistribution of the courts.
In the appeal filed, the lawyers claim unconstitutionality in the new judicial map. According to them, this map monopolizes the market of lawyers only in the cities where there are courts, increases the costs of their services for citizens, thus reducing the public's interest in going to court and harming their access to justice, A2 CNN reports.
According to the lawyers, the KLJ consultative meetings were only formal. On their part, the representatives of the government, KGLJ and KLP, as an interested party in the process, requested the dismissal of the appeal. The new judicial map was implemented in three phases, during which 19 courts ceased to exist in two trial levels.
