Businessman Nikolin Janina will be extradited to Spain, a country where he is accused of drug trafficking.
The Supreme Court overturned the decision of the Court of Appeal of the General Jurisdiction, for the boss of the tile company "Porcelanosa".
In March of this year, the Court of Appeal of the General Jurisdiction rejected the request of the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana to allow his extradition, simultaneously removing the security measure that was in force against Ioannina.
After this decision, the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana appealed to the High Court, where the member of this court, Albana Boksi, decided to overturn the decision of the Appeal. Janina was arrested in May 2022, after Interpol Tirana received a red card with the name of Nikolin Janina.
The court of first instance in Tirana had earlier decided that Janina should be extradited to Spain, where he must face the charges of drug trafficking, but by using legal opportunities he won his freedom on the grounds that when he was declared wanted, Albania did not have an agreement extradition to Spain.
Who is Nikolin Janina?
Nikolin Janina, the Albanian businessman, known as the boss of the well-known Porcelanosa store, was arrested on May 6 in Albania on charges of being a drug trafficker with the intention of extradition to Spain. He is accused by the Spanish authorities of being the leader of a criminal group composed of Spaniards and Turks, who trafficked various amounts of heroin, morphine and opium in several European countries.
The arrest was made because not long ago the extradition agreement between Albania and Spain came into force. As this agreement did not exist at the time, Janina was also free in Albania, where she had escaped trial and sequestration of assets several times. Porcelanosa building materials stores are spread throughout Albania and for many years they have furnished the luxury homes of Tirana and Albania.
