The head of SPAK Altin Dumani gave an interview to the media as he spoke about his work at the head of the Special Prosecutor's Office and the difficulties encountered.
Dumani said that SPAK was created in December 2019 and until today has encountered a number of difficulties starting from the lack of staff to tools to use for various investigations.
"In December, SPAK turns 5 years old. For the public and for you as the media, maybe 5 years seems a lot, but in reality for an institution it is too little to get the shape it needs, taking into consideration the difficulties we have gone through as an institution. We started on December 19, 2019, we were only 18 prosecutors, we had no administrative staff, we didn't even have a building, there was no question of having tools to use for the investigation. On the other hand, we had a very large flow of criminal proceedings. We inherited a relatively large number of files from the Serious Crimes Prosecutor's Office. The General Jurisdiction Prosecutions declared incompetence and sent many files to the Special Prosecution. We have gone through many difficulties, the situation is different today", said Dumani for the show "3D by Alban Dudushi".
The head of SPAK also pointed out who are the officials who have been brought to justice. Dumani emphasized that former judges, former prosecutors, mayors, former mayors, members of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, as well as high-ranking police officials have been put under the magnifying glass of justice.
"As far as corruption is concerned, I believe that SPAK has demonstrated in these years that it is able to prosecute any entity regardless of its position, its profile, no matter how high it is, we are doing it with evidence day by day. You know that SPAK prosecuted very high, mid-level, low-level officials, former judges, former prosecutors, mayors, former mayors, members of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, very high police officials", explained the head of SPAK.
Dumani emphasized that SPAK has hit criminal organizations that were not even thought to be affected before.
"As far as organized crime is concerned, it has shown in these years that, in cooperation with international partners, it can pursue criminal prosecution against structured criminal groups and criminal organizations that previously were not even thought to be affected, but today it is a reality," said Dumani.
