Divorces are becoming a worrying phenomenon in the Korça region and the causes are numerous, including the economic situation. In many cases, couples who go to court for a divorce have been living apart for a long time, and there are even cases where the spouses have started other parallel relationships. The most common are immigrants who return to their homeland to end their marriages.
"We have couples who have been physically separated for 2-3 years, who have second relationships and when they come here they say that we have been separated for several years. Emigration, that is, distance, is the main problem and children who do not receive pensions," lawyer Entela Dvorani told "Report TV".
Divorce cases have also increased among 70-year-olds, who rule out the most bizarre reasons for separation. There has also been an increase in cases of violence committed by spouses against each other during the legal process.
"Older couples are coming to get divorced because they can't stand each other. So couples who don't trust each other," she adds.
According to data from the Korça court, 402 requests for marriage dissolution were registered in 2023, compared to 750 requests last year. The trend remains on the rise in the first quarter of this year.
