Students with knives and hashish, the school principal raises the alarm: Parents

The killing of 14-year-old Martin Cani and the wounding of another student in Fier has raised the alarm about the lack of security in the country's educational institutions. A lot of noise is being made, but in fact few cases are reported to the prosecutor's office for students who carry knives or use hashish in school premises. This concern was raised by the head of the prosecution of Lezha, Denisa Perdja.

"There is an increase in criminality, according to previous years' statistics for juvenile matters, related to the sale of narcotics, possession of knives, gloves, driving without a license. The first is prevention, very few referrals are made to the prosecutor's office by the police, school principals, and social workers. If it is known that narcotics are consumed in a school, it should be referred to the police and the prosecutor's office", said Denisa Perdja, head of the prosecution.

The local officials of the Lezhë municipality said that school leaders should report problematic students to the police.

"The cases must be identified, who are the problematic children. What kind of family do they have? That they carry illegal means? They should be in the focus of the teacher!" said Pjerin Ndreu, mayor of Lezha.

But the ball should not remain in the school's gate, said education leaders, as in many cases parents are irresponsible for children.

"Please, I'm sorry to say it, but parents have given up on their children. The teacher informs him about the problem and the parent says who are you that is bothering me?", said Bardh Dedgjonaj, director of a school in Lezhë.

Likewise, there are shortages of staff and infrastructure! Currently, there are only 3 security officers in all the schools of the municipality of Lezha, while there are no cameras.

"Today the municipality of Lezhë has 14 psychologists and 4 social workers and only 3 security guards in its schools. But from next year, 5 security officers will be added to Lezha", said the Director of Education.

The problems were highlighted during the meeting of the Local Council of Public Safety, which is headed by the mayor of Lezha./Shqiptarja.com
