The Vlora court has sentenced Arjan Tasen, the policeman who killed 7-year-old Jonada Avdiaj with a speedboat, to 18 years in prison.
The former State Police official was tried for intentional homicide indirectly, as he went ashore with his boat to bring his family and took the life of a minor who had come from England to take a vacation in the south of the country.
The serious event took place on August 2, 2022 at Potami Beach in Himare, where 7-year-old Jonada Avdia was hit to death by a dinghy led by police officer Arjan Tase, while she was bathing on the seashore.

The child, originally from Tropoja, lived abroad with her family in England, but had returned to her homeland for vacation.
The event brought reactions from all public opinion, while protests were organized for several days in a row. Such a tragedy also brought the reaction of the police, who blocked all the vessels on almost the entire coastline and subjected them to an inspection, while this year, the inspections and punishments for the drivers of the vessels that violate the rules have been increased.
Meanwhile, on July 11, the Prosecutor's Office of Vlora closed the investigations and officially charged the former officer and 8 other policemen, who will now face justice for the charge of indirect intentional murder. For this criminal offense, a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison is provided. According to the Prosecutor's Office, Tase did not respect the restricted area for vacationers, which should not be crossed by watercraft, and made a wrong maneuver while driving the boat, hitting the 7-year-old girl to death on the beach, a few meters from the shore.
Tase was the former police chief in Himare, while when the incident happened he held the post of police chief in Elbasan, but Gladis Nano, then General Director of the State Police, finally dismissed him from the police.
For this event, the entire management chain of the Border Police of Vlora, as well as the responsible inspectors, was dismissed.
Meanwhile, at the court session on August 5, 2022, Arjan Tase appeared shocked after the serious incident in Himare, where he hit 7-year-old Jonada Avdia to death. He told in detail how the accident happened.
"I would never want what happened to have happened. I do not want to defend myself and I will not claim any extenuating circumstances, said Tase. I also want to apologize to all the colleagues of the state police affected by this situation. It should never have happened, but my bad luck. Only my mother and my little son had boarded the boat. In the sea was the woman with the eldest son and the sister with the two children. If the boat had rolled in the opposite direction I would have killed my family. I didn't want it to happen. I saw that there were waves, I was staying a little away from the people," said Tase.
