International relations expert Marlind Laçi commented on the European Political Community Summit held in Tirana on Friday (May 16, 2025).
One of the "spicy" moments of this summit, commented on by researcher Laçi, was the meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
A video of the two leaders has gone viral after President Macron places his hand on top of President Erdogan's, while the latter reacts by squeezing one of his fingers.

" The body language of both Emmanuel Macron and President Erdogan clearly shows geopolitical clashes between Turkey and France. Several conflicts have been carried over in the case of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Turkey sided with Azerbaijan, while France sided with Armenia. We also have the case of the clash of Turkish interests in Libya with French interests. In this context, in both of these conflicts, but also in the conflict that occurred years ago in the Mediterranean Sea.
Given all this, at that moment President Macron attempted to overpower President Erdogan, in diplomatic language this is a kind of dominance, but also a certain control over the Turkish presidency to show superiority, but on the other hand it was a classic reversal of the situation.
"In that case, President Erdogan clenched his fingers and held them together. At that moment, Erdogan told him, 'France and Europe are in decline, while a new star is rising on the global stage,' this was read at the level of experts and diplomats who know body language," Laçi told Euronews Albania.
