A provocative statement by Prime Minister Edi Rama towards a Greek journalist has brought an immediate reaction from the Greek media.
During a meeting at the Sustainable Development Summit in Abu Dhabi, Rama told the Greek-American journalist that Greeks are not descendants of Plato and Aristotle.
This statement has taken on huge proportions, and a flurry of comments on the X network.
The Greek media " Protothema" has dedicated an article to this event, publishing a post by Daily Turkic stating that DNA studies show that modern Greeks share the same DNA with ancient Greeks, since the Mycenaean Era.
Meanwhile, it was not only the media that reacted to Edi Rama's statement, but also the Minister of Health. The Greek minister said that Rama has a serious psychological problem with Greece.
Rama's attack on the Greek-American journalist
It all started when the Greek-born moderator John Defterios, a CNN journalist, mispronounced the names of Edi Rama and Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic during their speech.
As soon as the two leaders took the stage for discussion, the prime minister corrected Defterios for the journalist's mistake. Shortly after, Edi Rama also corrected him, but visibly annoyed, accusing him of pronouncing the names incorrectly because he is Greek.
Continuing the discussion and while discussing the energy investments being made in Albania, Edi Rama said "let's thank our mentor Sultan Al Jaber" (Minister of Energy of the United Arab Emirates) and asked Defterios if he knew him. Defterios, for his part and for the sake of humor, replied with a smile "how can he not be sure who he is (Sultan Al Jaber)", inviting those present to applaud.
Prime Minister Rama replied: " As a Greek, you should have known. That's how you do it, you always underestimate people because you think you have a monopoly on philosophy and are the direct heir of Plato and Aristotle," adding immediately afterwards: "But you are not."
