If we travel on interurban roads, especially now in the summer, it is not uncommon for us to see cars engulfed in flames, which are not related to any criminal incident but to technical defects that burn the vehicle in a matter of seconds and put the lives of the driver or passengers in it at risk.
According to police statistics, 5 cars burn down every month due to this cause.
" It is a high figure compared to the vehicles in Albania. The heating of the drums from constant braking must be avoided. When changing oils and lubricants, the engine must be washed. During the summer, diesel engines catch fire from the blockage of the particulate filter. Another cause is the repair of electrical systems in uncertified services ," says expert Fadil Lukaj.
The majority of cases were detected in the morning hours or at the moment the vehicle was started, which indicates a lack of regular maintenance or the use of non-original parts.
To avoid such situations, it is worth having the car undergo a periodic technical inspection to see if any safety systems have been removed from the car by previous users or if unsafe installations have been made.
To prevent damage from becoming serious, it is advisable to keep a 6 kg fire extinguisher in the car./ TCH
