The Socialist Party won in 5 municipalities in the country where partial local elections were held, with a large difference in votes from independent candidates, but with a low number of votes due to low voter participation in the process.
Former opposition candidate in the May 11 elections, Aulon Kalaja, said that a debate should be opened in Albania to return compulsory voting.
Kalaja stated that Vlora, with a turnout of 12.5%, has produced enough votes for two parliamentary mandates, but not enough to legitimize a mayor.
"We take into account that there was no interest from the citizens. Citizens are leaving politics. This is because they have no interest in politics. Most did not know that there were elections. These excuses, such as the fact that it was a rainy day, insult our intelligence. To drown a person in water from the rain... If they had interest, people would have gone out in even more difficult conditions."
The participation in the elections is disappointing for the DP. The civil society candidate did not rise. I have seen some reactions from some candidates who did not support the DP. Analyzing the low turnout of young people, Kalaja said that it is necessary to invite them to become part of politics as the mass interest has been lost. Among other things, Aulon Kalaja says that the Democrats are very tired of the opposition's consecutive losses.
