
Two weeks after the opening of the tender of the first phase for the construction of the new commercial port in Porto Romano, the government has also made public the cost of the second phase. According to the Unique List of Projects of National Importance, the second phase of the port's construction is estimated to cost 261 million euros.
The tender for the first phase has been announced with a limited fund of 393 million euros. This means that together with the second phase, the total cost of building the new commercial port in Porto Romano reaches 653 million euros.
It is not known if these two phases fully cover the total cost of the new commercial port or if there will be other phases after them. But it is certain that Albanian citizens will pay at least 653 million euros from the budget to build the new port of Durrës in the area of Porto Romano, according to the government's own forecasts.
The existing commercial port was decided to be dismantled after the Albanian government gave the land to the Arab investor Alabbar to build there a tourist port as well as a large residential complex with towers and villas.
First phase tender
The tender for the first phase of the port construction was opened on the last day of last month. The government has determined as a limit fund the value of 39.3 billion ALL or about 393 million euros.
According to the government, 15 large international companies have expressed interest in this project. Royal Haskoning will be the Dutch company which, in partnership with the Albanian government, will supervise the entire process from the international competition to the works that will be done in the port.
The construction of the new commercial port of Porto Romano is expected to be completed within 2028. / Kapitali.al
