The first hearing at the GJKKO on the 'Partizani' affair has been postponed to today. Lawyer Edmond Petraj spoke about this development, stating that this matter will take a long time.
According to him, if Berisha is found guilty, he risks up to 10 years in prison.
" This is a case that will take a long time. The average I think is that it could go up to 2 years, because it will be a marathon process and many witnesses will speak. There will be a marathon of discussions and retorts in the courtroom. If Berisha had any hope of not being convicted before, now he has a 50 percent chance of being convicted. If found guilty, Berisha's minimum is 8 to 10 years, if the prosecutor comes up with a combination of sentences thinking that we can have a sufficient assessment considering his age ," he said.
Meanwhile, Petraj said the situation is different for his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi. According to him, Malltezi is accused of money laundering, a criminal offense punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
" For Malltezi, the situation will be more complex because there is the money laundering part, it is not known how far that file has reached, but the money laundering part is an element that SPAK must be well prepared for regarding this accusation that it has filed against him, I do not know if it has done the financial analysis and collected information from the banks. For the money laundering part, the sentence is up to 15 years. If it is proven that the privatization decree is illegal, it falls to start the part of its repeal. In the Partizani case, SPAK does not seek repeal, but uses it as evidence to say that it was used for corrupt purposes ," he said when invited to "Report TV".
