Cars catching fire, especially while driving, are being recorded more and more every day in our country. In recent weeks, it has been reported that in the Tirana region alone, there are more than two cases per day where vehicles have caught fire, some of them while driving, endangering the lives of drivers, but also passersby.
"In the last month we have had an increased number of incidents involving fires in vehicles. In recent days we have had one or even two incidents per day. For the month of June there have been over 20 cases and this is not normal compared to the statistics of previous years ," said Shkëlqim Goxhaj, director of the fire department.
For safety expert Gëzim Hoxha, high temperatures have an impact on car fires. But according to him, everything starts with inspections at service stations.
" Our services are not qualified at the right level. The people who work there are not certified. In these circumstances, they accept to do any kind of repair and the repair then turns out to be problematic. The car itself may have an oil leak. This also comes from the poor quality of the fuel ," declares expert Hoxha.
Another factor, says expert Hoxha, is vehicle modification. According to him, knowledge should be acquired in driving school.
" In driving school, we don't teach students that they should warm up the car once before they start driving because when the car warms up, the fuel burns completely. It takes two to three minutes before you start driving to warm up the car."
But what should drivers keep in mind in order to prevent their vehicle from bursting into flames?
" You have to be careful with the fuel, you have to keep the engine clean, you have to take care of the car, you have to have the braking system in order ," explains expert Hoxha.
"The increase in car fires is a wake-up call for drivers and institutions alike. Awareness and regular maintenance are key to preventing accidents . " / A2CNN
