Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Shkurov gave an interview for the show 'Studio Live' where he spoke about the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Tirana and the request that Albania and the Balkan countries produce ammunition to help Kiev.
Shkurov described Zelensky's visit to Tirana as very good and well-organized, evaluating as an achievement the signing of the joint statement by the leaders of the South-Eastern European countries.
"It was the first visit of this level. The visit went well. Everyone talks and writes about this, both in Albania and Ukraine, but also in other countries. Bilateral talks were held with President Zelensky and Prime Minister Edi Rama, either with the eight or eight format, but also within the delegations. The basic agreement on friendship and cooperation was signed. The Summit was held in Tirana and it went very well. The participants adopted a joint statement in support of Ukraine. And the evaluations we have received have been very positive", said Shkurov.
Regarding the possibility of Albania producing cartridges and ammunition for Ukraine, the ambassador said that a very professional work should be done for this, but he underlined that there must be preparations first before the first step is taken to start the production of ammunition.
"It is a very important issue for Ukraine because the war is going on. Ukraine appeals to international partners with whom it has a prior agreement, and mainly it is to supply Ukraine with weapons without delay, which can objectively make it difficult to resist the Russian aggressor. Today Ukraine has 500 defense enterprises, we have contracts with the main manufacturers of drone weapons with Germany, Turkey, but Ukraine continues this dialogue with our partners, here including Albania. It is an interesting and perspective issue, but as you understand, professional work is needed, it is necessary to process everything before taking the next step", the ambassador added.
