Analyst Mentor Kikia has called the protest held by the Democratic Party (DP) in front of the Prime Minister's Office on Monday a failure. Invited to the "Të Pashoq" program of "Pamfleti", Kikia said that in the face of weak mobilization, the organizers were forced to change course by renaming it from a national protest to a 'pulpit' with a local character.
He further added that the main problem in the DP is not the organization but Sali Berisha, who according to him no longer resonates with the citizens.
Excerpt from the interview:
Kikia : It is an attempt that began just a few minutes after the start of that protest-platform-rally, to find another name for it, since it did not have the size and dimension of a protest. Protest, even from the subtext of the word, is something a little more nervous, with more revolted, nervous people, who are looking for something, who are screaming. When it was seen that, in relation to previous protests, it was a total failure, then the organizers tried to quickly save what they could from failure by saying that this was not a national protest, but a local protest, because we had organized it ourselves, we did not want to make it big. We only called people from Tirana, because it is not a protest, but a platform; here we will set up a platform to say what we are not allowed to say in parliament, to give space, time and media attention to the causes, the government's efforts to cover up the Balluku issue and we will expose others here. Up to this point, every format, every formula, every method to denounce, to speak, in a democracy is absolutely necessary and even more so in a country like Albania. But, referring to the major objective that the Democratic Party had exposed throughout the week: protest to overthrow the government.
-And he says this every time he protests, yes.
Kikia : So, it's an expression that has already been used up and doesn't stick anywhere. Uh, even after this Mr. Berisha was still saying that now the season of protests has begun and the end of the government has come. It's a stale statement, because we regularly hear protests that mark the end of Rama, protests that mark the end of Rama, the beginning of the end of Rama begins, and so on and so forth, how much this thing neither sticks, nor motivates, nor inspires people anymore to take to the streets, to support the Democratic Party and personally I trust Mr. Berisha. I think that protests as a form of opposing the government with what happened last night, has gone beyond the methodology.
