Due to heavy rainfall, the flows in the Vjosa River increased. The Ministry of Defense has stated that the Vjosa River is being monitored as it is in danger of overflowing its banks.
The head of the Municipality of Fier, Armando Subashi, has claimed that from the data obtained from the hydrometer in Memaliaj, the water level of the Vjosa has already begun to drop significantly.
The maximum flow was recorded at around 14:30 at level 7, which means that that flow level is expected to arrive around 19:00-20:00 in the end villages of the Levan and Novosele units. But considering the experience of past years, this level does not pose a risk for the Vjosa River to overflow its banks.
The good news is that the water level of the Vjosa River in the Tepelenë Memaliaj area has begun to fall and compared to noon, the fall is about 70-80 cm, which means, according to Subashi, that the danger has passed and the night hours will be calm and problem-free.
Subashi also stated that the situation will be monitored and emergency vehicles and forces will remain on standby for several hours for any possible eventuality.
Earlier, the Minister of Defense, Piro Vengu, arrived at the Mifoli bridge, where he closely monitored the flow situation of the Vjosa River.
In addition to civil emergency structures and local authorities, the highest-ranking leaders of the Vlora Police, headed by Director Elidon Çela, have also arrived in Novoselë.
Together with the "Eagles" group, law enforcement is patrolling the field to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of citizens.
Police have increased patrols along high-risk areas, especially near the river and bridge, where the water level poses a risk. Officers are urging residents to stay away from these dangerous spots and to follow the authorities' instructions.
Director Çela stated that the police presence aims to prevent incidents and ensure the smooth running of the work of emergency teams that are monitoring the flows and embankments.
Law enforcement will remain on the ground throughout the night, while the situation in the Vlora region continues to be under constant surveillance by all institutions.
