"Albpetrol" continues to cause great pollution in Kuçovo, because the oil wells are in amortized condition.
A citizen of the area, who has a well near his house, says that on rainy days the yard fills with oil.
Braçe Demo tells "Report TV" that he is not the only one, as around 300 profitable wells are currently located in residential areas.
The well flows continuously, especially on rainy days. Oil waste from the drainage canal ends up in the Lapardha River.
As a former oil technician, Braçe Demo says that the pipelines are very old and have not been changed since 1918, when Italian companies opened these wells in Kuçovo.
Now these wells are used by the state-owned oil production company "Albpetrol", which has caused great pollution of water and agricultural lands.
The day before, the investigations started at large for two managers of "Albpetrol" in Kuçovo. The report was made by the residents of the area, who have been living with the heavy smell of oil that remains on the surface for years. The oil production company has not made any technical intervention in the wells although they are profitable producers.
Despite the high polluting risk of the oil industry and leaks from the wells, the Regional Environment Agency and "Albpetrol" have not published any report on the damage they cause to the environment.
