The government plans to stop the movement of certain vehicles during the week...
Hiding behind the pollution control plan, the government aims to restrict the movement of vehicles in the country.
The government has submitted for consultation the National Plan for Energy and Climate 2020-2030, where it is foreseen that measures will be taken to limit the circulation of cars and the ban will be based on license plates.
The document does not detail how the scheme will work, but it appears the signals are that certain number plates could be banned from driving on certain days. " Determining circulation taxes and limiting the use of vehicles (their use on certain days of the week, eg according to the license plate) ", says the plan of measures.
This restriction system is applied in some European countries, but public transport works there.
Albania is the only country that has no train, no subway and no tram. Only the bus lines operate, which we know how they are. Meanwhile, the government seems to be moving forward with an avant-garde plan, since after the 'electric buses' it will introduce the electrification of urban and intercity transport lines in the municipalities of Tirana, Vlora, Durrës.
" One of the contributors to pollution is urban and intercity transport. For this purpose, a study is being prepared for the electrification of urban transport lines in the three municipalities of Tirana, Vlora, Durrës. After the preparation of the study, the possibility of financing this project will be seen, to start with the transformation of urban transport, introducing the use of electric vehicles ", the document emphasizes.
In the meantime, the plan is to continue increasing taxes on old cars and even some may go out of circulation, a project that has started since 2020. " Setting tariffs for vehicles based on their energy efficiency and offering incentives for renewing fleet- The measure aims at reducing the average age of cars and increasing the required standard. The measure is in line with the softening scenario of the KKP. It includes the prohibition of registration and the increase of taxes for second-hand vehicles, with the aim of reducing their entry into the Albanian market as much as possible ", it is further stated.
The document has been submitted for consultation and it remains to be seen how much it will be concreted. / Pamphlet
