Prime Minister Edi Rama has not spared his praise for the staff of the National Anti-Corruption Agency (NACA) and its former director Mirlinda Karçanaj, who resigned after investigations launched by SPAK and the imposition of security measures for several people.
While introducing the new head of the AKSHI, Igli Tafa, Rama said that he is among the most dedicated people in public administration. He considered the AKSHI as one of the most irreplaceable stones of the Albanian state.
Regarding what is happening with the SPAK investigations, Rama said that in a fair code, all those who are investigated are presumed innocent, with the exception of Albania, where they are considered guilty. Rama has not spared criticism towards justice, for which he once again mentioned cases where various people are forced to go through ordeals and are never presumed innocent.
" This is madness ," said Rama, emphasizing that "AKSHI should be like that 'lighthouse' that guides the movements of all ships."
" We live in a phase of history where another revolution is taking place, like the revolution you are making every day to transform Albania into an image of the new digital world."
Another revolution is taking place, more savage, more painful, with more wounds and more brutality, but necessary, the revolution of transforming the justice system from a living rot, into a fair, equal, and functional justice system.
We are far from the latter, but the road is one of no return, and unfortunately, if in your virtual world experiments are done with algorithms, if in your virtual world failures are crashes, program shutdowns, in this world of justice, these are done on the skin of people. It is not a computer that is turned off, it is a human life that is placed in a position that is not at all admirable and not at all enviable , "said Rama
While encouraging AKSHI employees, Rama said that he would not want them to abandon public service and move to the private sector.
The Prime Minister said that we should all pray together that justice be as fair as possible, while adding that he hoped that Mirlinda Karçanaj would emerge clean from this investigation process.
" First of all, I wanted to come personally to thank Linda Karçanaj, who has worked with me for 2 decades, since we were in the municipality of Tirana.
I know her as a person dedicated to public office and service in this country. You know her and I believe you share the opinion that Linda was the first to arrive at work and the last to leave. I am saddened by everything she is going through, by the barbaric aggression of portals and networks of verbal violence, which associate her with things that have nothing to do with Linda.
I will not go into the merits of the case in question, I am not aware of any details related to the activities of these companies involved in an investigation, but I am aware of the fact that Linda is a single mother with two children.
You have a most excellent career. With all the high-level partners of AKSHI, Microsoft, etc. I have heard the most enthusiastic words and extraordinary impressions about you and Linda Karçanaj.
She is going through an ordeal from which I believe she will emerge clean, but it is up to justice to say this.
"This does not mean rejecting the values it created and rejecting the revolution ," Rama said.
Rama has promised a salary increase for AKSHI employees, while emphasizing that our alliance with Microsoft is extraordinary.
" If there is an investigation into AKSHI, in a just world everyone should be presumed innocent, while they are presumed guilty. This is a difficult moment, some of you here are UFOs, living with a computer screen and when faced with reality you may feel disoriented."
Together with the minister, we have decided to intervene in the legislation and increase salaries, telling you that we value you and do not want you to abandon public service, we do not want you to put your talent at the service of the private sector. We want you to believe that this is your home from where you make the lives of so many people easier.
It is a great misfortune that the name of AKSHI is tarnished, but on the other hand we cannot say that because of the transformation and the burden you carry, AKSHI is uninvestigable. We cannot claim this.
"If the 'lights' of this house were turned off, Albania would return to the Stone Age ," he said.
He then stated that the AKSHI is the most special unit of the Republic of Albania.
" Microsoft's administration for you is extraordinary, the highest considerations have been expressed for you and digital Albania. You must understand that at the end of the day, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger ," said Rama.
